Permanent shortening (contracture) of a muscle
due to replacement of destroyed muscle fibers by fibrous connective tissue, which lacks extensibility. Typically occurs in forearm flexor muscles. Destruction of muscle fibers may occur from interference with circulation caused by a tight bandage, a piece of elastic, or a cast.
