Engine and governor check

Front

Place truck in neutral Restar vehicle Within the first 15 seconds the following must occur A: oil pressure indicator must rise to between 20-80 psi B: oil pressure indicator light/buzzer must turn off Bring rpm to 1500 Once both air gauges rise above 85 psi time built up rate either gauge reaches 100 psi, this should not take more than 45 seconds Continue to build pressure until governor cut out activates at 120-125 psi

Low air pressure indicator light/ buzzer check

Front

Apply and release (fan) break pedal to reduce air pressure Indicator light/buzzer should activate no lower than 60 psi on either gauge

Spring brake test

Front

Continue to (fan) brakes to reduce air pressure When air pressure falls to between 40-20 the break valve should pop out Trailer before tractor or both at the same time but never the tractor first

Service break check

Front

Place foot on brake pedal Release both tractor and trailer brakes Pull truck forward Depress clutch and break pedal truck should stop smoothly in a straight line

Prior to beginning the test

Front

Ensure your air pressure is built to the governor cut off level (120-125) Places truck in first gear Turn ignition off Turn ignition to on position without restarting engine

Applied check

Apply firm pressure to the break pedal not full pressure Observe gauges ensuring loss is not more than 4 psi in 1 minute Note: student must show the passage of the time either counting out loud or utilizing a watch Do NOT utilize a phone

Parking break check

Front

Place truck in 1st gear Release trailer brakes Gently tug test the tractor brakes Reapply trailers brakes Release tractor brakes Gently tug test the trailer brakes

Set break and place truck in neutral

Static check

Front

Release both tractor and trailer breaks Allow pressure to equalize Observe gauge ensuring pressure loss is not more than 3 psi in 1 minute Note: student must show the passage of time either counting out loud or utilizing a watch. Do NOT utilize a phone
