How many low-water cut outs are required by the state code?

Low pressure boilers must have at least one automatic low-water cutoff and high pressure boilers shall have at least two automatic low-water cutoff with the exception of miniature boilers.

How do you take over a shift?

check the boiler room log and all operating equipment Check the water level in boilers that are operating Test the low-water fuel cutoff control Inspect all running auxiliaries and accessories Listen for any unusual noises. Check the water level in the deaerator or feedwater tank. Check the burner for the correct flame and the correct fuel oil temperatures and pressures. Follow the chief engineer's instructions for correct feedwater treatment and boiler blowdown. Use soot blowers as scheduled. Determine that the fuel supply is adequate. Review the chief engineer's log for any instructions that are different from routine procedures. Perform bottom blowdown as required.
