Dugnad
The meaning of Dugnad is unpaid voluntary useful community work, the literal translation is "let's do it together". It started 5000 years ago where everyone does civic work to engage in community cleaning and repairing, after there is a celebration; this creates a strong sense of community. Examples: fixing potholes, mow the common lawn, plant flowers in the community, arrange a local flea market. Also: help w/ kindergarten, decorate school, help w/ school soccer team or band. With dugnad: no one to be worse off than before dugnad started. Recall: Norway among poorest European countries at beginning of 20th century. After dugnad, have a celebratory meal; get together to have cakes or waffles & have coffee. - Get to know neighbors better, foster stronger community. Dugnadsånd: spirit of will to work together for a better community. In Oslo & urban settings: joint ownership of apartment building, have shared responsibilities. Limits: no major work in government maintained areas.

Conservative Prussian politican, he was one of the greatest politician-diplomat in the 19th century and was called the "Iron Chancellor".Minister President of Prussia 1862-1890 and German Chancellor from 1871-1890. He valued willpower, loyalty, honesty, and perseverance.

Leni Reigenstah and "Triumph of the Will"
Leni Reigenstah was the director of "Triumph of the Will", deemed the greatest propaganda film of all time, that showed the power of the Nazi party and Hitler himself. This film was a pioneer in many film techniques. It is illegal to publicly show this film in Germany, due to the reminder of Germany's popular support for the Nazi party.
French Gender Parity Law
Lawmakers in France passed a bill last year that will require an equal number of women and men candidates on nearly all election ballots. The new measure goes further than any other in the world to ensure equal representation of men and women in politics, and is a surprising leap forward, considering French women only earned the right to vote in 1944.

Both assassinated due to their outspoken views on Islam in Holland. Pim Fortuyn was a politician who spoke on Islam's discrimination on women. Theo Van Gogh was a filmmaker who made a documentary on discrimination in Islam and wrote passages of the Quran on a naked woman's body.
